Commanders.

I have a personal project that will be much easier if I have authorization for it.

If you desire the details, I will give them to you, but believe me. You DON'T want the details. Just take my word for that.

I simply need authorization to take three pints of Captain Norstein's blood, in small, safe intervals, as well as his hair clippings the next time he has a hair cut.

... I have to say, I'm undecided on this.

I realize that, Commander.

And as I said, if you want the details, I will give them to you.

But they are not pleasant. They are not nice. They are not morally forgiveable.

And whether I have authorization or not, they WILL be done. I've given Nanami my word.

What are the details, then?

You're certain? I'll tell you, but if I tell you, you lose plausible deniability.

Which, I assure you, is something you want to keep here...

We lost that the moment you brought this up, Ivan.

I mean no disrespect, commander, but whatever you're thinking?

Is nowhere close to what I am undertaking.

... I warned you...

The teenage human body contains no less than eight pints of blood. I could fake a man's death convincingly enough to implicate anyone I wanted to legal satisfaction with one, if I had optimal conditions and a stupid target. As I have neither optimal conditions, nor a stupid target, nor the goal of simply faking a death, I need more.

Nanami asked me to be prepared to stop her, should her mission go awry. I am not smart enough to out-think her, nor is anyone besides Touma or Braniac, I think. And she wouldn't believe that either of them could do what I'm considering anyway. And in Touma's case, she'd be prepared for his plans to counter her anyway. There is a reason that she asked me, after all.

With three pints of blood, Touma's hair clippings, some unimportant posessions of his, and a set of Gaomon's Gloves, I can create a scenario of having tortured Touma to death. Slowly. For the simple purpose of getting beneath her skin.

To stop her without killing her, I would first have to make her stupid. Self-reflective. Fill her mind with hatred and push her to the brink of sanity. And then push her past it. And, with respect commanders... the rest of THAT plan is nobody's concern but mine. Suffice it to say, she wants the fastest, safest way to bring her down, and to do that I need to destroy her so that we can all put the pieces back together.

I do not WANT to do this, commanders, but I would rather have my preparations in place should it prove to be necessary.

That certainly is an unsavory prospect, yes.

...

It does bear in mind, though, we would be ill-advised to not consider the consequences of our own actions... and the necessity to counteract them if need be...

Ivan, stepping away from the moral implications of this... how do you intend to secretly withdraw blood from a man with genius level intellect, and who has athletic combat training?

Not to mention medical training.

I don't intend to secretly do anything. I intend to do it covertly in plain sight.

The medical wing needs to hold a blood drive.

An accident will require a transfusion.

And another accident with the transfusion will necessitate drawing more blood from Touma to test.

Three pints, safely taken, for plausible reasons. You're asking more than you need to know, sir.

Without admitting to anything criminally, this is not the first time I've done this.

And, of course, this isn't a plan that we're going to necessarily have to put in place, providing things go well... but, to be prepared for it... I can't really deny the logic of that...

...

Hrm.

Yes.

There was a reason that I did not wish to burden you with details.

Please, sign the authorizations and let me do my job, and you can forget that we ever had this conversation.

What authorizations, Ivan?

We've asked Nanami to play in darkness for our benefit.

Rest assured, what you may be planning is nothing quite like what Barbamon has prepared. And I'd be lying if I said I never made use of secrets myself.

As far as I'm concerned... you never asked me anything today, Ivan.

I cannot speak for my colleagues, though.
